The 4th ruler of the Odrysian kingdom is spelled Μήτοκος (Metocus) on his own coins but also Μήδοκος (Medocus) in greek sources. Earlier studies identified him also as Αμήδοκος (Amedocus) or Αμάδοκος (Amadocus) which, however, is assumed to be an ancient misspelling or another person.    Metocus succeeded Seuthes I and resided on the upper course of the river Hebrus. Seuthes II, son of Maesades, an orphan driven away from his fathers territories was brought up in the court of Metocus. In 389 BC both joined in an alliance with Athens. Their names are mentioned by Diodorus in the see battle of Aigos Potamoi 405 BC where the Athenian fleet was destroyed by Lysadrus the Spartan during the Peloponnesian war.
